Apart from 1 or 2 upset tummies on the coach ride, Primary 7 have arrived safely and well at Benmore. Unfortunately V.Wood, the cd player on the coach was acting up and so we didn't get a chance to hear the 'Oliver' cd. The 7's, however, treated us all to some Oliver favourites with near passable cockney accents.
We have settled into our dorm rooms and getting to know the building and the beautiful botanic gardens quite well already.
Fish and chips for dinner and now we're writing our diary entries. We will be blogging some P7 entries for today.
Today we took 3 and a bit hours to get here on the coach which was tiring. When we got here we were split up into groups and went on a walk.
Ryan:
Before we left we put on some waterproof trousers and jacket. On the way we tried some mushrooms and I liked them. Best things about today were tasting the mushrooms and brambles and having the dogs with us.
Aimee:
Things that I learnt about our wildlife walk: That we got to try different wildlife food that came off trees like blackberries and peppered mushrooms. Things that I learnt about myself: That I am confident at now trying new foods.
Mariama:
Today we did a long, long walk with Thea's dogs. They were Border Collies. Mist was 11 years old and Bria was 6 years old. Mist had been rolling in something that was yet to be buried. She smelt a bit but it was ok.
Ioana:
First, like usual, I got travel sick but I felt so happy anyway. On our walk we walked through muddy paths and jumped into deep puddles. We crossed a river and it was so strong that it knocked me off twice! I didn't even think of my mum and I was so relaxed.
Megan:
We went and splashed in all the puddles and then we trudged across the slippery water. After that we went a bit further and we found a ditch. Some people went through it. I fell and it felt like I was sinking! But it was an amazing experience!
Paige:
We all sat in the lake and my wellies were filled with water. I really liked my first day and can't wait for tomorrow. Things that I learnt about myself: That I can walk across fast flowing water.
Liam:
Today we did treking and a bit of puddle jumping. The best things about today were going in deep, sloppy mud. It was like quick sand.
David:
Today, me and my group went on a very long walk with 2 dogs. The best thing about today was the long, funny ride on the bus.
Charlie:
We are going on a night walk tonight. Today I learnt that I'm not that scared to try new things and that our instructor stays at Benmore.
Anthony:
Today we did lots of walking and splashing in puddles. I learnt that James Duncan built Benmore and I also learned which mushrooms you can eat.
Alicja:
Today we tasted mushrooms that tasted like pepper. I learnt that many people like to try new things but there are still some that don't.
Emma:
We have just had our dinner which was fish, chips and peas. Right now we are just about to go on our first night walk. Today I learnt that James Duncan built Benmore and was a millionaire.
Darryl:
Today we walked dogs called Maria and Mist for hours. The best thing about today was walking and jumping in puddles with Anthony.
Daria:
Today we went on a walk and it was really good. Me and my group were allowed to try blackberries and mushrooms that had pepper in them. It was amazing on the walk today.
Zak:
The best thing about today was splashing in the puddles and getting wet.
James:
Today we did some splashing in the mud and water. It was so much fun. I loved the tea 'cos it was fish and chips. It was amazing. I went up for extras of fish.
Ellie P:
First we got on the bus. On the way, Megan's nose started bleeding. We stopped for a while and ate our lunch and then started off again. Then we finally got to Benmore, found our dorms, unpacked and went to play in Puddle Lane.
Naomi:
My mum drove me to school this morning with my suitcase. On the bus I waved to my mum and it drove off. At Benmore camp I put on the the coat and trousers that they gave us and then we went for a walk.
Glad you had a good day, Aimee cant believe you tried mushrooms, well done. looking forward to see what exciting activities you do tomorrow, dad sais hi too, night xx

First day of room inspections and everyone did extremely well. A good, filling breakfast was then required for the activities that were to follow...
Cody: Today I learnt how to climb the really high ropes and the forest because I was stuck in the mud and I didn’t know what to do so I just pulled my feet out
Blair: This morning we did high ropes in the morning. It was really fun. I made it to the top of everything. I was a bit nervous at the top of them all because it was very high. Today I learnt that I’m a little bit scared of heights but that does not matter because I can overcome it.
Harry:
The best thing about this morning was when we were on the forest walk and we got hot chocolate which was very tasty and I learnt how to tell when a deer had been in the forest by looking at bark and the leaves.
Wlodek:
This morning we did a fun activity. We were rope climbing. It was fun. I challenged myself to do my best and I did it. (*Win*) I made it to the top without falling. I learnt when you face your challenge and you reach it you feel proud.
Alana:
We went abseiling and rock climbing in the afternoon. The abseiling was 50 ft tall. I went down it. It was really fun.
Daylene:
The best thing about this morning was the forest walk. We played in the forest and walked in miniature waterfalls. I learnt how to face my fear by not being scared of heights and doing the abseiling.
Tisha:
This morning we did a walk in the rain. The best thing was drinking the hot chocolate after we climbed to the top of the mountain.
David W:
This afternoon we did an activity in the woods. Today was not my day because I fell in the mud and got bitten by a moss snake (an unverified rumor! - PocketTed)
Laura:
This morning we did climbing the high ropes and we went very high. We jumped from a pole to catch another pole. It was so funny. Lara jumped but I jumped before her. The best thing about this morning was that I had a go even though I’m scared of heights (I feel proud of myself).

This afternoon we did a forest walk. David fell in the mud and a snake was in his boot. (Again, another unverified rumour – PocketTed) I learnt that some slimy fungus can be poisonous.

This afternoon we did rock climbing and abseiling. I was the first one to climb up and I made it. I found it quite easy actually. But then the abseiling bit – I abseiled all the way down and at first I didn’t think I could do it, so when I got to the bottom I felt proud.
Jordan:
This morning we did high ropes. It was really high but I never got really high because I was scared but I learnt you had to wear a helmet at all times when you are within the area of high/low ropes.
Niamh:
This morning we went for a stroll in the woods. We played games and looked at the views and drank hot chocolate. On the way back we walked through a strong river. I learnt that I can walk in a forest for hours with a jacket on in the rain.
Lara:
This morning we did the high and low ropes. Me and other members of my team were climbing and working together. The best thing about this morning was climbing with Laura because she jumped before me and I hit her. I learnt that if you face your fears you can learn a lot more.
Christie:
This morning we went through the forest. Lots of people fell over in the mud. Then later on we went to the ropes and I faced my biggest fear, heights. But I went right to the top of the highest thing there. I learnt that I could face my fears by going up to a very high platform with another person and it was shaking. I also learnt that you have to respect your leader by listening and paying attention.
Lauren:
We went walking a way up a massive hill. When we got about half way up we stopped and built a tent and had hot chocolate. On the way back down we got to run down (it was really hard to stop!)

Naomi:
This afternoon we went high roping and the best thing was being able to get to the top. Today I learnt that although I found it easy I'm not an expert. Best thing about today: dinner.
Paige:
Today I went mountain biking and got soaked but I still loved the experience. Best things about today were climbing up high on the ropes, swinging down, working in a team and being able to trust my group.
Mariama:

Hi all, hope your last day been as fun as last few days, hope you all enjoyed the disco tonight, Aimee im sure you will have had a good dance, :), miss you lots cant wait for tomorrow to give you a big hug. We are going to go for a meal and bowling tonight, which im looking forward too. Nite we love you babe xx
Excitement is building in the lower dining hall at Benmore. In the next hour, Balgreen's primary 7's and St. John's primary 7's will be doing their thang on the dance floor. I've seen some of Balgreen's dance moves on the high wire of the ropes on Tuesday (Vlodek's will stay with me forever I imagine) and I firmly believe St. John's will have to keep on their toes to match the talent.
No more sightings of moss snakes (ahem) but plenty of heroic, selfless putting selves before others in the face of adversity. Just this evening, in fact, Aimee was observed scraping a generous portion of her apple crumble into Zac's welcoming bowl with no thought of what might be on offer later in the tuck shop.
Well, the disco is nearly upon us and I just noticed a George Formby record in the dj's cd collection. Better leave now before disaster ensues. Expect your little loved ones back at school tomorrow between 1pm and 130pm. A little bleary eyed and disorientated but full of wonderous tales of adventure and curious sightings.
Hope everyone has had a great time at the disco tonight. See you tomorrow Ry and look forward to hearing all your stories before you collapse!! Thank you to everyone for sharing your experiences with us and well done! We've really enjoyed it!
hope you all have arrived safley, have fun xxx

ReplyDeleteWednesday 29th September
ReplyDeleteBlair:
Today’s activities were rock climbing, canoeing and abseiling. My best bit was canoeing because we got soaked. All of us were pushing each other in. In my group, Jordan was the best at going forwards, backwards and turning and Lara was very good at encouraging Jordan when he was scared of heights.
Jamie:
This morning’s breakfast was sausage, toast and beans. Yum! My favourite meal so far has been fish and chips. Today’s activities were rock climbing and canoeing. I learnt a lot about rock climbing.
Alana:
Today’s activities were gorge walking and canoeing. Our group worked well together when we were on the gorge walk because you were always helping the people in front of you.
Tisha:
This morning’s breakfast was toast, cereal and a glass of milk which was nice. Our group worked well together when we were kayaking because we all listened to our teachers.
Wlodek:
Today’s activities were rock climbing and canoeing. I learnt most at ropes and was confident. It was fun when at rock climbing the guy told me that I look sleepy.
Daylene:
This morning’s breakfast was sausages and beans. It was beautiful. Our group worked well together when we were gorge walking because Harry fell in and we all screamed ‘Harry!’ and pulled him up.
Harry:
Today’s activities were the gorge walk and in the afternoon we were biking. It was fun playing dodgeball in the kayaks. I kept leaning too far and capsized 3 times! I learnt most when the instructors were telling us how to do the gorge safely.
Laura:
This morning’s breakfast was sausage and beans. It was yummy! Our group worked well when we were climbing because we all talked and encouraged each other.
David W:
This morning’s breakfast was sausages, beans and toast. My favourite meal so far has been fish and chips. Today’s activities were rock climbing, abseiling and kayaking. It was fun when I fell in the water.
Emily:
Today’s activities were gorge walking and canoeing. We got to choose if we wanted to go on canoe or kayak. I learnt most when we were gorge walking because there were loads of tips.
Brandon:
This morning’s breakfast was sausage and beans. It was nice. My favourite meal so far has been steak pie. Today’s activities were gorge walking and kayaking. I learnt to control the kayak.
Lauren:
Today’s activities were gorge walking and canoeing. The gorge was so small and the canoeing was cold and wet. Our group worked well together when we had to pull each other up the gorge and help each other when we capsized. I now know the black rocks are slippery!
Cody:
Today’s activities were climbing and canoeing. I was most impressed with Christie because she was scared of heights and she still did the climb.
Christie:
This morning’s breakfast was cereal and toast with beans and sausages. Yum! Today’s activities were abseiling at the practice room and I faced my fear with heights. Our group worked well together when we all did abseiling and we all made sure we didn’t fall.
Niamh:
Our group worked well together when we helped each other climb over the strong river. I learnt most when I worked with Alana and got to the end of the loch.
Good for you Christie!! Maybe I should try that!! Have a great time xx

ReplyDeletehope you have had a good time ejoy your time at the disco tonight cody. see you tomorrow, love chloe mum and becky x x
ReplyDeleteExcitement is building in the lower dining hall at Benmore.
ReplyDeleteNo more sightings of moss snakes (ahem) but plenty of heroic, selfless putting selves before others in the face of adversity.
Anthony and Megan would like to wish Cameron a happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteHave a great night jordan and we will see you later on tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone has had a great time at the disco tonight. See you tomorrow Ry and look forward to hearing all your stories before you collapse!! Thank you to everyone for sharing your experiences with us and well done! We've really enjoyed it!
